Handwriting builds communication skills for a lifetime. It is a step-by-step approach to teach handwriting. One of the most important things to remember is that your child needs to practice to become better! I provided some tools to help you at home earlier this year. It is imperative that when assisting your child at home, you provide a model with the correct strokes. Also, you need to watch to be sure your child is following the proper sequence in forming the letters and numerals. Encourage your child to hold his/her pencil correctly! Here are some techniques specific to "lefties" and "righties..."
Left-handed writers
1. Sit up tall.
2. Keep both feet on the floor.
3. Slant your paper.
4. Put both arms on the table.
5. Pull your pencil toward your left elbow.
6. Use your right hand to move the paper.
7. Hold the pencil firmly with your thumb and first finger.
8. Do not squeeze the pencil when you write.
Right-handed writers
1. Sit up tall.
2. Keep both feet on the floor.
3. Keep your paper straight.
4. Put both arms on the table.
5. Pull your pencil toward the middle of your body.
6. Use your left hand to move the paper.
7. Hold the pencil firmly with your thumb and first finger.
8. Do not squeeze the pencil when you write.
